Somebody once said that, "You shouldn't watch less TV. You should watch more good TV."
Television is in an interesting transition right now, one that is having a remarkable effect on the movie industry, of all things, a group of folks that are supposed to operate more in tandem with the film-makers. TV has gotten good, too good, perhaps. In fact, it's gotten better than movies in a lot of ways, with good series' episodic format providing more room for characters to have longer arcs, making them more akin to novels than a 2 hour movie.
That has thrown the whole standard story-structure for a loop in TV, letting show-runners tinker with the formula, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.
