gray-witches.pngEvery year, the earth undergoes a tilt that forces the sun's nourishing radioactivity ever-so-much further to travel. That extra time spent in the outer space's deathly darkness cools it a few degrees. Measured on a galactic scale, the temperature isn't a terrible shift.

This is the transition from summer to fall. It's the number-one best seasonal transition.

Fall to winter is just depressing and cruel. Winter to spring is a false start with a fart and a trip before a real change. Spring to summer always elicits cries for mother nature to just get on with it and bless you with sunshine and vacation.

avatar-divebomb.gifFilm studio press releases talk about shared universes like they're a brilliant new contraption for storytelling. Marvel has created their cinematic universe with ruthless efficient. DC's equivalent has died like Elvis on the toilet. Time will tell if the paramedics arrive soon enough to save them.

electric-earth.jpgGhost Little continues to grow its audience. I could not be more pleased with the most recent developments.

That's why I'm doing an update about Ghost Little's free books.

We'll get to them in a hot second.

First, as part of the discipline, I don't like speaking "to camera," as they say. You aren't meant to directly talk about what you're doing. You're supposed to stay on topic to educate your readers and help them learn why chosing your work is the best solution to their problem. To be clear, I help solve your boredom problem with remarkable writing.

Nevertheless: my website, my books, my rules, I can make an exception. Even The Rock has cheat-days. So, regarding the free books...

DmC-title-card.gifVisibility and volume have been stolen by tasteless crybabies. They possess no agenda, only to dislike, wall off, and counteract. Haters shriek plain simplicities with no sincerity.

It's been some time now since the video game landscape was introduced to the Devil May Cry reboot: DmC, and it remains an undervalued gem, chipped and clouded by morons addicted to their elusive, childish wonder, forever in the rearview.

Trembling disappointment has engulfed the gaming landscape. The messianic No Man's Sky, a game that fans literally launched death threats over reports of its delay, has finally be released.

Some people liked it. Some found it wanting. Word is that it's boring, aimless, endless, and zen. That's pretty bold, releasing a game with so few objectives. Then again, Minecraft didn't make 1 billion dollars by accident.

To those of you who feel disappointed over No Man's Sky, don't sweat it. There's a zen-like alien-planet exploration game with vehicles and endless, freakish alien monsters.

Here's why you should give Xenoblade Chronicles X a shot:

pacific-rim-rodan.gifThis is a recurring segment, with a recently-updated title, "Simple Answers," where I gather the questions I come across on the internet in a given week, and provide a straightforward answer.

This week's question again addresses the summer movie glut. It's all franchises. There are almost no original stories anymore, except maybe the sensational Pacific Rim, which is fast becoming a faded memory.

You may wonder why the movie market has come to rest in this weird, unoriginal landscape. The answer is simple:

riddick.gifThe greatest favor a writer can do is deliver the world a memorable character.

The second greatest favor a writer can do is deliver the world a likable character.

The worst favor a world can do is deliver the world another jerk bathed in their writerly projections, neuroses, and anxieties. Writers have daddy issues, man. Mommy issues are less common. Unpack that ball of yarn, why don't you?

Creating a likable, memorable character that is not simply A Jerk / Author Surrogate is a huge challenge. Like email, social media, or blogging, knowing how to write likable characters is honor bound by a simple rule: never skimp on the details...
